Now at its 24th edition, the event embraces Modena, Sassuolo and Carpi with a packed programme in different locations including museums and cultural institutions , where it also includes exhibitions that reference and investigate the Festival’s theme of the Psyche.
For example, Marca Corona and Gallerie Estensi, will be following up their very successful partnership during Festival Filosofia 2023, with an exhibition – curated by Francesca Disconzi – of the art of Stefano Arienti.
For the occasion Arienti, a leading figure in the Italian Transavantgarde movement, presents his artistic process applied to a variety of materials, to inspire reflection on objects’ vitality and the potential for the adoption of open, contemplative processes.
The setting for the exhibition is one of extraordinary prestige: the Appartamento dei Giganti, open to the public specifically for the occasion> and finally to be seen in all its beauty.
The exhibition will therefore be inaugurated during the Festival Filosofia.

Within the Festival Filosofia programme, the breath of life in “La Contingenza e la Materia” by Stefano Arienti
For centuries, the clear separation between the concepts of body and psyche has generated disciplines in which the two are never studied together.
Only chemistry, which investigates matter and its structure and transformation, has retained space for this combination of principles, very similar to the soul and its properties.
Given this premise, every element in the periodic table has a secret connection to the world of the everyday and is an “undefined cloud of future potentials”. It is on this basis that Stefano Arienti seeks – using a process focused on matter and its transformation – the lightness that can imbue things with vitality.
The works are thus animated by a close, inescapable dual relationship, in which the breath of life of “Contingenza e della Materia” is revealed.
As well as Arienti’s historic works, the exhibition also features his latest output, the result of his interaction and collective co-creation with the Marca Corona workforce.
These are new works on monumental dust sheets, on which Arienti worked with state-of-the-art graphic techniques to represent an original mingling of inside and outside, of the historic tradition and the contemporary.
The objects, imbued with an independence which extends beyond the boundaries of the artist himself, acquire the status of symbols, representing figures rooted in alchemy, which considers gold and the earth as prime elements.
Access to the Stefano Arienti exhibition at Palazzo Ducale during Festival Filosofia 2024
Unlike for other events scheduled during Festival Filosofia 2024 no booking is required for the exhibition “La Contingenza e la Materia – il soffio vitale negli oggetti” by Stefano Arienti at Palazzo Ducale, Sassuolo.
What’s more, during the Festival Filosofia days entry to the exhibition is free of charge. The opening hours are as follows:
- Friday 13 September: 10am – 9.30pm
- Saturday 14 September: 10am – 9.30pm
- Sunday 15 September: 10am – 17.00pm

After the end of the Festival Filosofia, the exhibition will run until 31 December 2024, with entry included in the Palazzo Ducale visitor ticket.
