Minimo Comune
multiplo

The concept of
Minimo Comune multiplo

MCm Minimo Comune multiplo (Least Common Multiple) refers to the namesake mathematical principle that highlights the multiplicity obtainable from a single element. This multiplicity principle underlies both Mastrovito’s artistic practice as well as Marca Corona’s manufacturing process, which are both based on the multiplication of a single element and its relationship with the whole.

Mastrovito has created an unprecedented work, in the form of a paper mosaic, inspired by the tales and dialogues with Marca Corona employees. One of the oldest photos of the company is reproduced by the artist using the frottage technique on hundreds of paper tiles, the same size as those in porcelain stoneware. Embellished with other frottage works created by employees during a workshop held by Mastrovito, the paper tile mosaic brings the company history to life, intertwining historic and contemporary elements in a single work.

A dialogue between art
and business

The main work, which the exhibition is named after, is complemented by a selection of works completed by Mastrovito between 2009 and 2024, which exemplify his exploration of multiplication as a creative process, where multiplied elements are juxtaposed to create new compositions. These works, which are on exhibit in Galleria Marca Corona and in the showroom, consequently interact directly with ceramics and its mode of production.

The “MCm — Minimo Comune multiplo” exhibition, curated by Ilaria Bernardi, will be inaugurated on 10th October on Marca Corona premises and in Galleria Marca Corona in Sassuolo. It coincides with the third edition of Marca Corona per l’Arte, a project that aims to establish a connection between the artistic world and the world of business. The exhibition will come to an end in Bologna from 7th to 9th February 2025, on the occasion of ART CITY, with a convention dedicated to art and architecture at Teatro San Leonardo, culminating in the awards ceremony for the winner of the Marca Corona 2024/2025 Award.
